  • Currys Group Sustainability & ESG Director, Moira Thomas joins the Digital Poverty Alliance’s Board of Trustees
  • This milestone represents Currys ongoing commitment to helping end digital poverty by 2030

This National Trustee Week*, Currys is pleased announce the appointment of Moira Thomas, Group Sustainability & ESG Director at Currys, to the Digital Poverty Alliance’s Board of Trustees.

This milestone is another important step in Currys’ ongoing commitment to helping eradicate digital poverty by 2030. What’s more, it’s strongly backed by the tech retailer’s vision to help everyone enjoy the benefits of amazing technology, including the 20% of children living in digital poverty today**.

Since Currys co-founded the alliance in 2021, Moira’s advocacy has been hugely significant in advancing efforts to address digital poverty in the UK.

Notably, Moria’s pivotal role, alongside Currys peers, in contributing to the success of the Tech4Families initiative has ensured over 1,750 devices distributed to low-income families in the UK. This scheme provides essential technology, including laptops and tablets, to those in need.

The significance of this scheme is further backed by recent research finding that 85% of children who have received a laptop through Tech4Families were getting one for the first time, with many previously relying on old smartphones to access schoolwork***.

This announcement comes after a successful second national End Digital Poverty Day, sponsored by Currys. Stores up and down the UK raised funds for the Digital Poverty Alliance in the run up to the awareness day, raising over £30,000 for families living in digital poverty.

“It’s a genuine privilege to be given this important opportunity to join the Board of Trustees. It’s a significant step in our Currys journey, but also one that I personally am really excited for. I’m looking forward to continuing the sharing of my own insights, but also those from a Currys perspective. After all, we’re best placed to help eradicate digital poverty and are I’m looking forward to strengthening our close partnership with the DPA even more so.”
