This Giving Tuesday*, Currys is thrilled to announce the reaching of 2 million customer donations, through Pennies, for the Digital Poverty Alliance (DPA). To celebrate, the digital-poverty-eradicating duo share a new video, highlighting the difference that these donations have made to the lives of families in the UK.

Just one day of customer micro-donations in Currys’ UK stores raises enough funds through the Tech4Families scheme for the Digital Poverty Alliance to provide three disadvantaged families with a laptop, transforming the opportunities available to them – as seen in the video.

Logistically, customers are invited to make a micro-donation via the card terminal screen when they pay for their purchase in-store, powered by partnering fin-tech charity, Pennies. They are offered a simple and discreet ‘yes or no’ option to donate if they wish.

This milestone comes on Giving Tuesday, which calls on everyone, everywhere to do something to support good causes. Currys exists to help everyone enjoy amazing technology, and helping eradicate digital poverty is a real priority area as part of this.

“This milestone is a true testament to the generosity of our customers. Two million is a huge number, but it's representative of the huge impact this is having on the families who now have access to the digital world. We see the positive each individual donation is having through the newly launched video – Alexis and Kellie are now connected, and the difference that’s having is mighty.”

“The impact of these donations cannot be overstated. Thanks to Currys customers, we have been able to provide laptops to over 1,700 families. Access to technology is no longer a luxury but a necessity. This support is transforming the future lives of so many children across the UK.”
