• Dixons Carphone commits to monitoring its suppliers’ carbon emissions, using EcoVadis’ brand new Carbon Action Module
  • The retailer will roll the module out to its suppliers, increasing transparency and driving carbon emissions reduction across its supply chain
  • The new module will play an important role in helping Dixons Carphone deliver on its commitment to Net Zero by 2040
  • Longer term, it will be key to helping the retailer help customers make informed choices through increased visibility on the sustainability of products and suppliers

Leading technology retailer, Dixons Carphone, is committing to assessing the carbon emissions of its suppliers across the globe, as part of its journey to decarbonise its supply chain and achieve Net Zero by 2040.

Working with the world’s most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, EcoVadis, Dixons Carphone is the first UK company to adopt the new Carbon Action Module. The module provides companies with a way to drive climate action at scale by collecting and analysing suppliers’ critical emissions data. The technology retailer will use the data to work with suppliers to benchmark, measure and, where needed, develop plans to reduce carbon emissions.

The move follows Dixons Carphone’s commitment to the British Retail Consortium’s Climate Action Roadmap in November 2020, through which it pledged – alongside more than 60 other retailers – to put decarbonisation at the core of all business decision-making; reduce carbon emissions from shops and distribution centres; move to net zero logistics operations; increase sustainably sourced products; help customers and employees live low carbon lifestyles.

Data shows that approximately 70-80 per cent of corporate carbon emissions take place upstream and downstream in supply chains globally (CDP)*. With approximately 10,000 suppliers globally, Dixons Carphone will use its scale and expertise to make a meaningful impact on its carbon footprint. The Carbon Action Module will increase transparency across the retailer’s supply chain and enable it to better measure aspects of its Scope 3 emissions, a necessary step in its Net Zero journey. In the long-term, it will be key to helping Dixons Carphone help customers make informed choices by providing them with greater visibility on the sustainability of both products and suppliers.

Ed Connolly, Chief Commercial Officer at Dixons Carphone, said: “The ability to assess the carbon footprint of our suppliers is vital as we work towards becoming Net Zero by 2040. As a responsible retailer, we are committed to driving meaningful change, and we’ll work with our suppliers and partners such as EcoVadis to evaluate how we can make our global supply chain more sustainable. As one of the world’s leading electrical retailers, we have a duty to our customers, colleagues and shareholders to ensure we are doing right by them and by the planet. That includes holding our suppliers to the same stringent standards we set ourselves.”

Simon Murray, Group Responsible Sourcing Manager at Dixons Carphone, said: “The actions we take now have the potential to shape a greener world for the future. As a global business with a complex supply chain, it is incredibly important for us to have a simple yet practical way to measure and improve both ours and our suppliers’ performance against our Standards for Responsible Sourcing. This will also allow us to drive improvements in the sustainability of our supply chain, enabling us to make a significant impact to our own carbon footprint and in turn, that of our customers, helping them make more sustainable choices.”

Lazar Armianov, Regional Sales Director at EcoVadis, added: “Dixons Carphone is dedicated to helping its customers make informed decisions based on the sustainability of products and suppliers. As Dixons Carphone continues on its decarbonisation journey, our Carbon Action Module will help the retailer drive transparency and real change through supply chain action.”
