  • Moira Thomas joins Dixons Carphone from John Lewis Partnership, where she led the implementation of group wide ESG strategies

Dixons Carphone today announces the appointment of Moira Thomas to the new role of Group Director of Sustainability and ESG, reporting into Executive Committee member Assad Malic, Group Director of Strategy and Corporate Affairs.

Moira joins Dixons Carphone, the business behind Currys PC World and Carphone Warehouse, from John Lewis Partnership, where she spent more than 15 years in various corporate social responsibility roles. Most recently, she was responsible for leading a team which focused on protecting and increasing the value of the business through ethical and sustainable business practice.

Moira brings a strong track record in managing large scale ESG programmes with extensive experience across carbon, property, waste, packaging, recycling and communities. She joins the business at a time when the importance of its vision to help everyone enjoy amazing technology has never been clearer.

As the market leader in electricals recycling for more than four decades, Dixons Carphone has long set the industry standard for sustainable retailing. Moira will build on and develop Dixons Carphone’s existing sustainability commitments, including its pledge to achieve Net Zero by 2040, its transition to electric vehicles across its delivery fleet and the strategic direction of its partnership with Digital Access For All, through whom Dixons Carphone earlier this year pledged £1m to help support disadvantaged pupils, parents and teachers.

Assad Malic, Group Director of Strategy and Corporate Affairs, said: “The global pandemic continues to highlight the crucial role amazing technology plays in people’s lives, and we’re helping more people than ever benefit from it. Our approach ensures we do this in a way that is sustainable – from how we interact with our customers and support our communities, through to how we power our properties and source, transport, repair, recycle, reuse or repackage the products we sell. With her experience and expertise, Moira will play a critical role in elevating our ESG strategy across the Group. I am delighted to welcome her to the team.”

Moira Thomas, Group Director of Sustainability and ESG, added: “It’s an exciting time to be joining Dixons Carphone, which is balancing the need to meet unprecedented demand for vital technology, with doing right by the planet and communities. I’m looking forward to helping the business continue to put purpose at the heart of everything it does, galvanising its expertise, scale and reach to help everyone benefit from amazing technology.”
